Jan Woods was born in Worcester and grew up in Worcester and Yorkshire. After gaining a Business Studies qualification from the University of Hallam, she worked in London in various industries including Lighting Design and Social Housing. In 1996, she relocated to North Wales with her husband and joined the small team engaged on the reconstruction of the Welsh Highland Railway, working alongside the National Park and other environmental bodies to conserve the varied habitats along the route and taking photographs as the Railway progressed. During a period of recuperation from an illness, in 2006 Woods enrolled on the Fine Art Challenge, the foundation course for the BA Hons degree offered by the Life Long Learning Department of Bangor University, from which she graduated with a First Class Honours degree in 2013. Film became her principal medium, which continues with the present work, filmed on location at Tre’r Ceiri.
