Y Teithwyr Chwilfrydig yn 2019

Crynodeb o sgyrsiau, digwyddiadau, a gwaith sydd ar y gweill

Daeth ein cyllid oddi wrth yr AHRC i ben yn 2018, ond y mae gwaith y prosiect wedi parhau, a disgwyliwn ymddangosiad sawl cyhoeddiad o bwys yn ystod y ddwy neu dair blynedd nesaf. Rydym yn parhau i weithio ar ein golygiadau, ac yn gobeithio mynd â’r prosiect i gyfeiriadau newydd maes o law.

Treuliodd Mary-Ann Constantine gyfnod o dri mis ddechrau’r flwyddyn yn Rhydychen, yn gweithio ar ohebiaeth yr hynafiaethydd Richard Gough â Thomas Pennant fel rhan o gynllun Llyfrgell y Bodley ar gyfer Ysgolheigion ar Ymweliad. Cyflwynodd ddau bapur yn ystod ei harhosiad: ‘Richard Gough and Thomas Pennant’: Seminar Cymrodyr ar Ymweliad Llyfrgell y Bodley, a ‘Encounters with Ancient Britons’, Seminar Astudiaethau Celtaidd Rhydychen. Cafodd hefyd gyfle i ddarllen teithiau anghyhoeddedig Gough i Gymru, a wnaed yn 1761 (de Cymru) a 1770 (y gogledd). Roedd y cofnodion o’r ddwy daith yn atyniadol ac anarferol, ac yn cynnig sylwadau gwerthfawr ynghylch rhai o adeiladau canoloesol pwysicaf Cymru; rydym yn bwriadu cynhyrchu golygiadau ar lein ohonynt ar gyfer y wefan maes o law. Y mae gwaith ar ei monograff sy’n archwilio The Welsh Tour 1720-1820 yn parhau; cwblhawyd monograff Nigel Leask, Stepping Westward: Writing the Highland Tour 1720-1830, ac y mae wedi mynd i’r wasg.

Cyflwynodd tair aelod o’r tîm banel mewn cynhadledd ar Ddarllen, Ysgrifennu, a Chasglu: Llyfrau a Llawysgrifau yng Nghymru, 1450-1850 a gynhaliwyd yng Nghadeirlan drawiadol Aberhonddu ym mis Ebrill 2019: Mary-Ann Constantine, ‘My companion through the Principality’: Richard Colt Hoare & Gerald of Wales’; Ffion Mair Jones, ‘Before the Book: Thomas Pennant’s Correspondence’; Elizabeth Edwards, ‘Reading and the Welsh Tour’.

Yng Ngŵyl y Gelli (Mai 2019) siaradodd Mary-Ann Constantine ar y testun ‘Literature and Landscape’ mewn cyfweliad radio ar gyfer Sioe Celfyddydau BBC Radio Wales (BBC Radio Wales Arts Show), ac mewn trafodaeth panel. Yn ystod yr haf, cyflwynodd Ffion Jones bapur ar rwydweithiau Cymreig Pennant yn y Gyngres Astudiaethau Celtaidd Ryngwladol a gynhaliwyd ym Mangor, a chynigiodd Liz Edwards bapur yng nghynhadledd y Gymdeithas Astudiaethau Rhamantaidd Brydeinig (British Association for Romantic Studies) yn Nottingham, yn trafod taith hynod ddiddorol y gwyddonydd a’r arlunydd dyfrlliw Cornelius Varley (gallwch ddarllen ei daith yma. Rhoddodd Nigel Leask seminar yn Rhydychen ar deithiau Dorothy Wordsworth yn yr Alban.

Ym mis Gorffennaf, trefnodd Nigel Leask a chyd-weithwyr iddo yn Glasgow Weithdy Ymchwil, ‘Old Ways and New Roads’, yn Amgueddfa ac Oriel yr Hunterian. Paratoad oedd hwn tuag at arddangosfa o bwys ar deithio a thwristiaeth yn yr Alban: bydd catalog darluniedig gydag ysgrifau yn cael ei gyhoeddi gan Birlinn yn 2020.

Ym mis Tachwedd, rhoddodd Nigel Leask a Mary-Ann Constantine gyflwyniad ar brosiect y Teithwyr Chwilfrydig, gan siarad am eu gobaith o gynhyrchu golygiad digidol o Deithiau Pennant yn y dyfodol, mewn cynhadledd ar y maes digidol a drefnasid gan Anna Marie Roos yn y Gymdeithas Frenhinol yn Llundain.

Ym mis Rhagfyr, cyflwynodd Mary-Ann Constantine bapur i Seminar Rhamantiaeth Llundain-Paris o dan y teitl ‘Welsh Bard Walking’, yn edrych ar daith gerdded hir a thrwblus Iolo Morganwg o Lundain i Forgannwg yn ystod haf 1802.
